​Bridge club donates $6,500 each to Women’s House, Huron Shores Hospice

The Kincardine Charity Bridge Club has presented $6,500 each to Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey and to Huron Shores Hospice.

The presentations were made Friday afternoon in the seniors’ room at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine.

The club has been playing duplicate bridge in Kincardine for almost 45 years. For most of those years, it has been donating to charities.

Since 2016, the club has donated about $50,000, including this year’s donation.

Will LeGrand, community engagement co-ordinator for Huron Shores Hospice in Tiverton, thanked the club for the remarkable donation.

“Community funding is the cornerstone of what we do,” he said. “We’ve been providing end-of-life care for more than six years, and have helped more than 150 guests and their families at the hospice. We also provide end-of-life Doulas, end-of-life workshops, and we’re expanding into caregiver support. We are doing all we can to provide holistic support for the end of life, and it’s all thanks to the community’s generous donations.”

Danielle Bois, community relations and fund development co-ordinator for the Women’s House, also thanked the club and said the organization has been serving this community for 40 years. She is looking forward to the return of the annual gala this fall, as well as other fund-raisers.

The club appreciates all the bridge players who have participated, with special thanks to Tom Rajnovich, director and manager, and the many volunteers. Also, thanks to the Municipality of Kincardine for allowing the club the use of the wonderful facilities at the Davidson Centre, and to the Davidson Centre staff.

Rajnovich noted that there were 11 tables in play Friday afternoon – the most ever. He also pointed out that Steve Jolley has become a director with the bridge club.

“Thanks to Tom for his hard work and dedication to the club,” said Jolley.

“It’s a good cause, it’s a good group of people and it’s fun,” said Rajnovich.

The club runs two American Contract Bridge League (ACBL)-sanctioned duplicate bridge games each week, on Monday and Friday afternoon, and runs bridge lessons on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
