​South Bruce OPP report break-in; and advise about safety during summer break

POLICE MAKE ARREST AFTER BREAK-AND-ENTER

(BROCKTON, ON) - June 24, at 11:38 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of a break-and-enter at a property along Chepstow Road in the Municipality of Brockton. Officers arrived and located an individual nearby who was taken into custody without incident.

Curtis ANDERSON, 30, of Brockton was charged with:
 

• Break and Enter
• Mischief under $5,000
• Possession of Stolen Property

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton to answer to the charges.

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) - Two days from now, students in southern Bruce County will be on summer break, and the South Bruce OPP wants to see them enjoy the summer months safely.

When school is out for the summer, we can expect an increase in the amount of pedestrian traffic as young people take to the streets and sidewalks on scooters, in-line skates, skateboards, and bicycles.

We also know that parents and caregivers go to work during the summer months, so we need to think about acceptable Internet usage and water safety.

“Our officers will be actively on patrol, engaging with youth in various municipalities this summer,” says staff-sergeant Deb McClure. “We hope to spread further awareness about the importance of wearing safety equipment, through positive interactions.”

The South Bruce OPP is offering the following tips for a safe and enjoyable summer:
 

• Slow down and drive with care, especially near parks and recreation centres
• Use crosswalks or intersections to cross streets safely; never step out into traffic between parked cars
• Bicycle helmets are required by law and reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 per cent, when worn properly
• Ensure that swimmers are always properly supervised
• Never leave pets or children in a hot car
• Follow your children on-line; if you're not connected with them, who is?

Parents and caregivers are asked to review safety rules with their youth. Summertime may be a break from learning, but it can't be a break from safety.
