​Canada Road Safety Week results for Huron County OPP

(HURON COUNTY, ON) - All members of the Huron County OPP took part in the Canada Road Safety Week campaign that ran from June 21 to July 1.

Officers paid close attention to the "Big 4" causal factors in serious collisions on OPP-patrolled roadways: Impaired Driving, Distracted Driving, Aggressive Driving, and Fail to wear a Seatbelt.

Huron County OPP officers laid 330 traffic-related charges during the week-long initiative, including:
 

• 160 speeding
• Four stunt driving
• Six impaired driving
• Seven distracted driving
• 52 seat belt infractions
• One Canada Shipping Act
• 100 other provincial offence infractions

Another 48 Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) check points were set up at various Huron County locations throughout the campaign.

During the campaign, the Huron County OPP investigated 23 motor vehicle collisions. There were injuries reported at five of the collision scenes.

"The Huron OPP detachment remains committed to preventing fatal, personal injury, and property damage collisions,” says inspector Jason Younan, detachment commander. “This commitment is accomplished through engagement, education, and enforcement. Please drive sober, slow down, remain attentive and buckle up to promote traffic safety."
