​Bervie W.I. travels to Saugeen Valley Children’s Safety Village

A small group from the Bervie Women’s Institute journeyed to the Saugeen Valley Children’s Safety Village near Hanover, Wednesday.

Linda Freiburger, who is a board member there, gave us a tour around the village which was founded in 2009 due to the generosity of many sponsors. She explained how school children up to Grade 6 attend the village to learn all aspects of safety, whether it be fire, traffic or safety in the home, as well as awareness about bullying and abuse.

Islay Eby thanked Linda and presented her with a donation for the village and a thank you gift.

Member Carol Cooper, who lives nearby, invited Bervie W.I. to her home to partake of a bag lunch and she provided a tasty dessert with strawberries and ice cream.

The group held its meeting there which opened with the usual openings and the answering of the Roll Call: “An excellent feature of the Children’s Safety Village.”

Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay gave the treasurer’s report. Thank you notes were read from the Tiverton Fall Fair and Hope Air for previous donations. Ellen Waye reported on her work as the new editor of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) newsletter.

The meeting closed with the closing ode and “God Save the King.”

The next meeting will be at the Bervie Church, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m., with a speaker on Community Care Access.
