​Firefighters battle structure fire, Saturday morning, in downtown Kincardine

Kincardine Fire and Emergency Services, along with fire departments from Saugeen Shores and Ripley, battled a structure fire, Saturday morning on Durham Market South in downtown Kincardine.

Heavy smoke and fire poured from the roof of the Kincardine Laundromat and spread to the CRG Energy building, connected to it on the east side, which also contains the Century 21 In-Studio Realty office.

The fire emergency caused the immediate evacuation of Victoria Park where volunteers were beginning to set up for the Kincardine Scottish Festival, with events slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.

The South Bruce OPP blocked Durham Market South, as well as parts of Princes Street and Queen Street, for the safety of first-responders.

As firefighters continued to extinguish the blaze, the festival executive was forced to cancel the Massed Band Parade; however, the solo piping and drumming competitions carried on along the streets outside Victoria Park.

Just past Noon, fire and police officials gave the all-clear and Victoria Park was re-opened at 12:30 p.m., for the Highland Dancing presentation, and the pipe band competition, as well as for vendors and Clan Avenue.

No cause of the fire or estimate of damage is yet available.
