Kinetic Knights showcase robot at Kincardine YMCA summer day program
Members of the Kinetic Knights Robotics Team brought their robot to St. Anthony’s School in Kincardine, Tuesday, to show the children of the YMCA summer day program.
About 40 youth, aged four to 12, got a close look at the robot and had an opportunity to drive it as it picked up notes (rings) and shot them into the speaker, which was this year’s challenge, “Crescendo,” through the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) program.
The robotics team is a community youth organization, open to young people, ages 13-19, in Kincardine. Currently, there are about 25 members and 12 mentors who focus on various aspects of team-building, as well as constructing a robot to enter in FIRST competitions.
Brent Williams of the FIRST Lego League, which is for children, ages nine to 12 in the Kincardine area, was on hand to describe that program. He also had the children design a house and then build it, using Lego pieces.
