​Bervie W.I. learns about Ontario Health at Home services

The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning, with the theme being “Community.”

President Bev opened the meeting with O Canada, the Opening Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect.

The Roll Call, “What do you know about Community Care Access?” was answered by nine members, with many wishing to know more about the services offered. 

Sandra MacDonald read the July minutes and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report. Sandra also gave the Sunshine Report. A donation will be made to the Canadian Red Cross which will be matched three-to-one for the Jasper fire victims.

Diane Wilson introduced Debbie Taylor who is a care co-ordinator with Ontario Health at Home, formerly Community Care Access. Many areas are covered, including home care, VON and care partners, personal and nursing care, physiotherapy and mental health. All of these services are designed to keep seniors in their own homes and some involve a nominal cost.

Debbie also talked about doing assessments for long-term care wait-lists, and resources that are available for palliative care in your own home, including overnight service and extra nursing support. Diane thanked Debbie and presented her with a thank-you gift.

Brenda Ramsdale provided details about the Sept. 4 meeting which will be held at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton. Meet at the church at 10 a.m. to carpool and bring a bag lunch.

The meeting closed with the Closing Ode and God Save the King.
