​Local public schools undergo renewal and improvement work over the summer

If you were wondering why that crane was at Huron Heights Public School in Kincardine last week, it’s part of school renewal and condition improvement work, at the three public elementary schools in Kincardine, over the summer.

Bluewater District School Board trustee Jan Johnson said a report to the board indicated it had received capital funding from a number of Ontario Ministry of Education initiatives, including school renewal and school condition improvement funding.

More than $17-million in investments will ensure that the board’s schools are in good condition and continue to provide safe and supportive environments for students and staff, states the report.

Huron Heights (with on-the-ground capacity of 344 students, and projected enrollment of 290) is having site rejuvenation work done, with expanded and reconfigured parking lots, as well as site drainage improvements, to the tune of $400,000. It is also receiving an upgrade to the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system, at a cost of another $400,000.

Ecole Elgin Market Public School (with on-the-ground capacity of 222 students, and projected enrollment of 292, is having site rejuvenation work, with expanded and reconfigured parking lots, at a cost of $350,000.

Kincardine Township-Tiverton Public School (KTTPS, with on-the-ground capacity of 375 students, and projected enrollment of 225) is having site rejuvenation work, with expanded and reconfigured parking lots, as well as play area resurfacing, at a cost of $300,000. It is also having upgrades to its HVAC system, at a cost of another $320,000.
