Horse rider injured in collision with truck on King Street in Tiverton

(MUNICIPALITY OF KINCARDINE, ON) - Aug. 8, at 9:54 a.m., the South Bruce OPP responded to the report of a collision between a truck and a horse and buggy on King Street, Tiverton, in the Municipality of Kincardine.

Officers arrived at the scene and determined that two horses were being ridden by their owners (no buggies were involved) northbound on King Street.

One horse was spooked by nearby construction which caused the horse to run into traffic where it was struck by a southbound vehicle. The rider of the horse was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for the investigation, and later re-opened.

The OPP reminds all drivers to slow down and move over for vulnerable road-users, such as horses, horses-and-buggies, bicycles and tractors. 

When motorists are meeting a horse, slow down and be patient, pass the horse widely and slowly, avoid actions that could spook the horse, such as sounding your horn or revving your engine. Horses can be unpredictable, so travel safely around these animals.
