Kincardine Legion Corner

This past week has been a sad one, as we lost our beloved comrade, Doug Kennedy. Everyone at Branch 183 expresses our deep sadness at the death of Doug and extends our loving condolences to Cathy, and Doug's family and friends. A very active Legion member, Doug was always willing to lend a hand. His guidance, smile, and effortless shuffleboard shot will be remembered forever.
There will be a memorial service, Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Davidson Centre, with a reception to follow. Doug requested that people wear their favourite sports jersey. He was an amazing person and the community will miss him dearly. If you wish to make a donation in Doug’s memory, the family would appreciate donations to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation or Huron Shores Hospice.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, Dave Dyer was a triple-dipper, so if you see Dave, you can ask him his secret. Scott Allen won $169 in the 50/50 draw. Congratulations, Dave and Scott!

Congratulations to Mary Murr who won $873 in the Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 3 which contained the King of Spades. Remember if you are unable to make it down to the Legion on Wednesdays for the 4 p.m. draw, you can watch it live on Facebook. Let’s see if we can get the Week 4 jackpot up over $6,000!

This past week, the Legion made a $500 donation toward the Huron-Bruce Kidney Walk, through Christopher’s Crew and the Kidney Foundation.

183 Eats at the Legion is planning to change up the lunch menu a little bit for fall, and is looking for input. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, feel free to send an E-mail message to  183eats@gmail.com. Lunches continue at the Legion, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from Noon to 2 p.m.

As for upcoming happenings, tickets will be on sale soon for the annual Lulu’s Band Hootenanny, Nov. 22, and the New Year’s Eve Party at the Legion.

Lastly, a reminder that Early Bird Membership for the Legion begins Sept. 1. You can save $5 on your yearly membership if you renew before Nov. 30. See the Branch 183 website for ways to renew.
