Author Gwen Lamont has successful book launch in Kincardine
The Walker House in Kincardine was the scene of a memorable book launch, Thursday, of “The View From Coffin Ridge: A Childhood Exhumed,” the recently-released memoir by Owen Sound author Gwen Lamont.

She read from “Survivor’s Guilt” which contains some of the themes from her book. Out of 2,300 entries from across Canada, “Survivor’s Guilt” was one of 30 long-listed for the CBC Non-Fiction Writing Prize in 2023.

Lamont spoke of the impact she hopes her book will have, enabling others to tell their stories. She also reminded her readers of the power of a caring adult to change the trajectory of a child’s life and to amplify the conversation about intimate partner violence.

Invited guests attending the Kincardine event, included Marcy Stocking, executive Director of Women’s House Serving Bruce and Grey; Linda Johnson, president of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of South Bruce North Huron; and Jessica De Vasser of The Book Shop on Queen Street, Kincardine, where Lamont’s book is available.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters and Women’s House gratefully received donations from Lamont to support their work in the community.

Avis Dalgarno and Bonnie and Terry Bryan, who organized the book launch, were recognized for their role in planning and promoting the event. Lydia Treidlinger and Pankti Shah, valued employees of the Walker House, and Julia and Sean of The Industry Room, were thanked for their warm welcome and invaluable logistical support.

The last stop on the Summer Book Launch tour is Southampton, Thursday, Aug. 29. Fall launch locations are Hanover, Collingwood, Toronto, Stratford and London. Tickets are available at www.coffinridge.ca/ and www.gwenlamontauthor.ca/.
