Labour council welcomes news that Bruce Power refurbishing Units 3-8 at Bruce Nuclear site

Dear Editor:
RE: "Bruce Power signs agreement to refurbish Units 3-8 at Bruce Nuclear site"

The news that Bruce Power has reached a deal with the provincial government on the refurbishment of six units, is welcomed by the Grey-Bruce Labour Council.

The labour council has been the voice of labour in our region for more than 50 years and has been a positive supporter of Bruce Power and its predecessors, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) and Ontario Hydro, for many years.

The refurbishment of the six units at Bruce Power will ensure reliable and safe energy for decades to come while significantly mitigating the emissions of climate-changing greenhouse gases. The refurbishment will sustain our communities with good jobs and significant economic spin-off work throughout the provincial economy.

This deal is good for workers in all facets of the economy, union members in many (if not all) workplaces represented at the labour council, and ensures safe and emissions-free electricity that ensures reliable electricity for Ontario.

Dave Trumble, past labour council president, notes that the labour council looks forward to continuing its long-standing work with the Canadian Nuclear Workers’ Council to do everything possible to bring about success of the refurbishment.

Sincerely,
Hazel Pratt-Paige
President, Grey-Bruce Labour Council
