Great memories of school days!
Here is our gang, though I don’t think the term was in general use in those days; so I should say, “These are my high school friends.”
We had started Grade 9 together in the same classroom in the old school, since the two Grade 9 classes were divided alphabetically by last name. Perhaps we drew together because most of us were from rural schools in the township.
High school friends gather for a photo; standing, are Marlene Caskanette (left), Helen Cottrill, Marguerite Arnold, Eueen Evans, Bernice Collins and Sheila Anderson; and seated, are Lois Taylor (left) and Beverley Caskanette
I took this snapshot in 1955 when we were in Grade 10. Behind the group is our home room where those of us in 10A met Miss Elliott each morning for French class.
In fact, this was our home room for the rest of our years at Kincardine District Secondary School (KDSS). Maybe that is part of the reason I continued studying French in university.
We would eat together in the cafeteria, then gather in the back corner of Mr. Whiting’s math room to help one another understand geometry theorems or translate paragraphs into Latin.
I guess this was practice for those of us who became teachers. What great memories we stored away for the time when we went our separate ways!
