Readers disappointed with council decision to destroy Secord Monument
To the Editor:
RE: “Municipality agrees to destroy Secord Monument that stood in downtown Kincardine”

I am truly disappointed with the Kincardine council decision to destroy the Dr. Secord sundial monument. It has been made controversial by a minority of very vocal people.

I agree with councillor Bill Stewart that council has no right to decide its fate since council can’t ever make any decisions on its own.

Council should be putting its efforts into getting the new high school built. Leave history alone!

Furthermore, I object to the Kincardine medical clinic and emergency department being named Hawthorne.

There are many people in this town who have put more sweat and effort into making it a better place, with a much smaller bankroll. I could name a few but they are very private people who would be embarrassed to have their names printed.

Why go to all the cost of changing the names of things every time a new group gets in control? Next thing we know, they will be changing street names because someone’s offended!

I have had my rant.

Respectfully,

To the Editor:

I am disappointed.

I’m disappointed with the lady who made “something out of nothing.”

I’m disappointed with the ladies’ group that supported that lady who made “something out of nothing.”

And I’m disappointed in our municipal councillors who were subservient to the women’s group that was subservient to the woman who made “something out of nothing.”

Conclusion? You can’t fix “stupid.”

As councillor Bill Stewart said - this type of grievance should never have been brought to the council table.

Council lost sight of the municipality’s majority in favour of a disgruntled few.

Thank you for letting me voice my opinion.

To the Editor:

It seems only fitting, since Kincardine council’s decision to not restore the Dr. Secord Monument, that the municipality erect a bronze plaque with the few names of the people who, in their enduring efforts, succeeded in having the monument removed.

Their efforts for mankind should not be forgotten.
