At the Saturday Meat Draw, we didn’t have any double-dippers; the prizes were well spread out. Jayne McGibney was our 50/50 draw winner, taking home $233, which was the biggest jackpot since the Canada Day Meat Draw. For those interested, the average 50/50 draw win over the past 12 weeks was $162.

183 Eats at the Legion is getting ready to start a new fall menu next week. The following items will be available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, from Noon until 2 p.m.: classic chicken wings ($10), barbecued pulled pork on a bun ($10), chicken schnitzel on a bun ($8), cod and chips with coleslaw ($14), two pieces of cod and chips with coleslaw ($16), and fresh cut fries ($5), and you can add gravy for an extra $2. Once the new menu runs for a few weeks, we may start to bring back some daily specials. Come and enjoy a great lunch at a great price!

Our Fall Dinner and Dance is quickly approaching, Friday, Oct. 4 – it’s hard to believe October is almost here. We still have some tickets for this event, available at the Legion Bar. Tickets are only $35 each and include the meal and entertainment. It will be a great night, to be sure. You will get a home-cooked turkey dinner with dessert as well. We have partnered with local business, Artily Sweets, to supply the delicious desserts, with a couple of gluten-free options as well. To get you dancing, we are bringing in Midnight Special Dance Express, a five-piece band that will be playing all your favourite 1960s and ‘70s tunes. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the meal and entertainment start at 6 p.m.

At the recent Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation Radiothon, Friday, Sept. 20, Branch 183 made a donation of $23,500. This money came from a variety of programs that the community helps support, including the Legion Poppy Fund, Bingo Nights, and the recent Jersey Day in memory of Doug Kennedy. Of this donation, $18,500 is earmarked for the purchase of a new high-tech ECG machine for the Kincardine Hospital.

While we are talking about donations, here’s an update on all of the donations Branch 183 has presented to the community since June. We couldn’t do this without all the community support, such as attending events, buying draw tickets, coming in for lunch, attending bingo, trivia, family dinners, and all of the other activities. We sincerely appreciate it, and hope you continue to support us! Also a big shout-out to charity chairman (and Catch the Ace MC) Russ Crook, for all the work he does organizing these community donations.
