​Bruce Power Nexus Research Centre announced at Clean Energy Frontier Conference

The first-ever Clean Energy Frontier Conference brought together industry leaders, local experts and community partners for two days of insightful presentations and networking. It also saw the announcement of the new Bruce Power Nexus Research Centre.

Hosted by the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) and sponsored by Bruce Power, the conference served as a key platform for exploring energy-related initiatives in the Clean Energy Frontier region.

Kicking off Sept. 30, at the NII Advance Technology Campus, the event featured a keynote address and announcement of the Province of Ontario’s investment in the Clean Energy Frontier region’s workforce development and training.

And from critical topics, such as nuclear medicine opportunities, the intersection of clean energy and agriculture, and local climate change action, the conference explored the valuable contributions of the region in the drive toward de-carbonization and a healthier future.

“The conference underscored the region's pivotal role in advancing clean energy innovation, workforce development, and environmental stewardship,” said NII board chairman James Scongack, Bruce Power’s chief operating officer and executive vice-president.

“NII’s work as a connector, both within and beyond the nuclear industry, was on full display these two days — and I encourage anyone with the shared goal of a clean energy future to reach out and learn more.”

Some conference highlights:
 

• Local workforce insights from six of NII’s founding-member companies: AtkinsRéalis, Bruce Power, BWXT, Cameco, E.S. Fox and Kinectrics
• A panel discussion with local workforce development partners on improving access to training and in-demand skills in the region
• A break-out session on the “Kaizen for Nuclear” process improvement work NII is doing in partnership with Bruce Power and other founding members
• A discussion with Green Ribbon Panel members called “Energy advocacy from non-energy advocates,” emphasizing the importance of cross-industry collaboration beyond the nuclear sector

The second exciting announcement during the conference was the creation of the Bruce Power Nexus Research Centre, a place of collaboration and a hub where industry leaders, policymakers, scientists and communities will work together to find solutions to today’s most pressing issues.

“This is the nexus where innovation will meet action, where data will drive policy, and where research will create tangible, meaningful change,” said NII’s Chad Richards, senior director of the research centre. “Together, we can make a lasting impact — to shape the future of energy, to strengthen our economy, and to protect our environment for future generations.”

Jessica Linthorne, NII president and chief executive officer said the conference highlighted the incredible innovation and collaboration happening in the region.
