​Knox Kincardine welcomes all to 106th “Ringing of the Peace Bell”

Knox Presbyterian Church, Kincardine, is welcoming everyone to the 106th “Ringing of the Peace Bell,” Nov. 11 at 7 p.m., at the church.

During the First World War, from 1914-18, Canada sent 650,000 of its finest soldiers to fight for God and Country - 61,000 never returned home.

When the war ended, Nov. 11, 1918, the bells rang out throughout all of Canada, heralding the restoration of peace and freedom in the world.

That was the first “Ringing of the Peace Bell.” It was a monumental price to pay to restore peace and freedom. In the Second World War, 44,000 of Canada’s finest did not return.

Nov. 11, 2018, the bells rang out again in Canada, heralding the 100th anniversary of the “Ringing of the Peace Bell.” Knox Church participated and has since continued the tradition of remembrance of our fallen soldiers.

The centrepiece of this year’s ceremony is the bell-ringing while the poppies flow throughout the church sanctuary.

The church has the honour of the Legion Colour Party in attendance. Some of the talented local vocalists, musicians and pipers will also perform memorable songs including “Christmas 1915” and “Hallelujah.” The ceremony ends with a stirring rendition of “Highland Cathedral.”
