​Ontario Building Trades Council reaffirms partnership with Bruce Power in supporting clean economy

As part of its already strong relationship with Bruce Power, the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario has reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with Bruce Power, site contractors and the local community to support Ontario’s nuclear sector as a stable source of clean, reliable and affordable electricity.

Delegates to the Building Trades’ 67th Annual Convention in Windsor approved a resolution, recognizing that nuclear power is an essential part of the energy mix to meet the province’s long-term plans to create jobs and grow the economy with clean, reliable, and affordable electricity.

The resolution further supports Bruce Power’s Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement (MCR) project, with members of the trades council helping to progress the refurbishments safely, with quality and on schedule.

“Our members take great pride in the work they are doing at Bruce Power with the specialized skills and knowledge they bring to the refurbishments of Units 3-8,” said Marc Arsenault, business manager and secretary-treasurer of the trades council.

The resolution also stated that Bruce Power’s MCR work translates to assisting Canada’s net-zero goals to tackle climate change while supporting the Bruce “C” Impact Assessment process and the timely implementation of federal Investment Tax Credits to promote Canadian investments in the nuclear sector.

“The work that we are doing every day at the Bruce Power site, along with our great partners from the building trades, is helping to drive Ontario’s economy and supporting future electrification needs,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s chief operating officer and executive vice-president, who addressed the crowd at the annual convention.

“I thank the building trades council for its ongoing support and for the vital role that its members play in the life extension of the Bruce Power site.”
