Kincardine recognizes U13 Cardinals for winning provincial “B” championship

Kincardine council welcomed the Under-13 (U13) Cardinals minor baseball players and coaches, and their families, to the council meeting Wednesday night (Oct. 23), as they were recognized for winning the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) “B” provincial championship.

Mayor Kenneth Craig greeted each player and coach, and handed out plaques from the municipality to acknowledge this great achievement.

He also read out the season’s accomplishments, as written by the team’s coaches.

“The 2024 Cards were a special group of players. A message they heard from January on. They had an incredible season with a 31-5 record, winning two “A” tournaments - Kincardine and Saugeen Shores - and placing second at the Mitchell “A” tournament.

“Their season culminated with playing up two divisions and winning the all-Ontario “B” championship against teams of all 13-year-old players. Being a “D”-size centre in Kincardine, the teams are mixed 12- and 13-year-olds.

“The biggest accomplishment and thing(s) to be proud of, though, were they all grew and developed as players and people. They showed commitment, had great work ethic, determination, resilience, a drive to get better and most importantly, were great teammates in every situation all year long.

“These qualities and behaviours are what will serve them well in in school, other sports, their families and in life. The had fun, were engaged and developed not only baseball and life skills, but a true love for the game!”
