Museum to celebrate 80th anniversary of D-Day with Uniform, Weapons and Equipment Show

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the historic D-Day invasion, a pivotal event during the Second World War that changed the course of history. In honour of the bravery and sacrifices of those who served, the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre will host a special event: “Honouring D-Day: Uniforms, Weapons and Equipment Show,” Saturday, Nov. 2.

Local historian and avid Second World War collector, Alexander Peroff, will present a remarkable display of authentic artifacts from both the Canadian and Axis armed forces. This is a rare chance to witness history up close, offering attendees a unique, tangible connection to the past through uniforms, weapons, and other military equipment used during the Second World War.

The event is designed to cater to both adults and families, with two distinct sessions:
 

• 11 a.m. to Noon: “Artifact Show and Tell for Kids and Families” (ages eight to 12)
  This interactive session will allow younger audiences to engage with history, with a show-and-tell period and an artifact identification activity.
• 1-2 p.m.: “Teens and Adults Presentation in the Bruce Power Theatre
  For a deeper historical dive, Peroff will deliver a presentation in the Bruce Power Theatre, followed by an in-depth artifact show-and-tell.

Alexander Peroff, the owner and operator of the travelling museum, “Front-line Journeys,” has dedicated his career to making history accessible and engaging for all ages. For more than 15 years, Peroff has been collecting artifacts related to Canada’s contributions during the Second World War.

“Front-line Journeys” offers a unique opportunity for individuals to explore history hands-on, ensuring that the stories of all Canadians during this period are remembered and appreciated by future generations.
