Presentation, discussion about addressing poverty, set for Nov. 26, at Knox Kincardine

Everyone is welcome to an insightful presentation and discussion about poverty and the efforts to combat it within the local communities, led by Jill Umbach of the United Way of Bruce Grey and the Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force.

Entitled “Addressing Poverty in Our Communities: Challenges and Solutions,” it is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m., at Knox Presbyterian Church, 345 Durham St., Kincardine.

This event offers an opportunity to connect, share, and collaborate with others working to make a positive impact on poverty and inequality in the region. Organizers hope everyone will join in this important conversation.

The United Way of Bruce Grey focuses on improving lives and building stronger communities across Bruce and Grey counties. The agency supports local programs and initiatives that address urgent community needs, such as poverty, food insecurity, affordable housing, mental health, and youth services.

By funding and collaborating with various local organizations, the United Way aims to provide essential resources and services for vulnerable populations. It also engages in advocacy and community awareness efforts to address systemic issues related to poverty and social inequality, working to create a more resilient and inclusive community for all residents.

The Bruce Grey Poverty Task Force works to address and reduce poverty across Bruce and Grey counties by fostering collaboration among local organizations, government agencies, and community groups. Through research, advocacy, and community engagement, the task force seeks to identify root causes of poverty and develop sustainable solutions.

Its work includes gathering and analyzing data on poverty-related issues, supporting food security programs, improving access to affordable housing and health care, and promoting economic development initiatives that benefit low-income residents. It also raises awareness and advocates for policy changes that help reduce poverty, and supports those affected.
