​Bruce Power launches annual fund-raiser for toy drives and hamper programs

To help the many local families in need this holiday season, Bruce Power has launched its annual on-line community fund-raiser to support numerous local toy drives and hamper programs.

Bruce Power is encouraging its staff, contractors, supplier partners and the community-at-large to help reach the goal of raising $55,000 for these programs across the Clean Energy Frontier of Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.

Donations can be made through www.brucepowertoydrive.com, and will be eligible for a tax receipt.

The fund-raiser, organized in conjunction with the United Way of Bruce Grey, will raise money for:

• Ripley Lions Club
• Tiverton Lions Club
• Port Elgin Salvation Army
• Walkerton Optimist Club
• Paisley Missionary Church
• Markdale Food Bank
• Meaford Food Bank
• Beaver Valley Outreach
• Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation
• Dorrell Young Christmas Program, Bruce County
• Dundalk Food Bank
• Durham and District Food Bank
• Flesherton Food Bank
• Huron County Christmas Bureau
• Saugeen First Nation
• Salvation Army Food Bank Hanover
• Salvation Army Food Bank Owen Sound
• Women’s shelters in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties

If the original goal of $55,000 is exceeded, Bruce Power and the United Way will distribute the extra funds accordingly.

“The need in our communities is greater than ever,” said Dwight Irwin, Bruce Power’s manager of community relations. “In response, we have increased our annual fund-raising target to help these important community programs spread as much joy as possible. Together, with the generosity of our staff and the community, we will reach hundreds of local families to make their holiday season a little brighter.”

This fund-raiser is part of the annual holiday outreach program, which is a joint effort between Bruce Power and its supplier partners. The program will provide $320,000 in support for food banks, warm winter clothing initiatives, local homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and grocery store gift card donations through schools and women’s shelters in the region.
