​Kincardine Horticultural Society announces 2024-25 executive

At the November meeting of the Kincardine and District Horticultural Society, the 30 members in attendance voted to approve the new constitution and code of conduct which had been rewritten in response to the requirements of the Ontario Horticultural Association (OHA) to which the Kincardine Society belongs.

The 2024-25 executive was also sworn in by Joan McLaughlin, representing the OHA. The executive includes president Caroline Gorski, vice-president Sue Telford, Secretary Grace Morris, treasurer, Debbie White, and directors Rosalie Zettler, Gillian Norton, Dan Roy, and Linda Farrell.

After the business part of the meeting had concluded, Harriet Suter showed some winter evergreens and dried plants which could be used for seasonal displays. These included dried Hydrangea and Hosta flowers, Cedar, Euonymus and Juniper as greens, and Seven Son dried seed sprays.

The guest speaker for the evening was Vicki Culbert who spoke on ”Photography in the Garden.” Vicki is from Goderich and is an active gardener. She used examples from her photographs to show how to get the best shot of plants in the garden and landscape.

She uses the camera on her phone almost exclusively although she mentioned that using a conventional camera or one of the new phones, where you can adjust the aperture, gives more flexibility. A spring visit to her garden in Goderich was suggested.

Members were encouraged to submit printed photographs to the OHA photography competition in May, 2025.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 2, and will be the Christmas Social. Further details will be circulated to members shortly.
