South Bruce OPP report assault charge; and impaired driver

ASSAULT CHARGE LAID

(KINCARDINE, ON) - Nov. 11, at approximately 4:15 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received the report of an unwanted person at an address along Queen Street, Kincardine.

Upon police arrival, the involved person brandished an edged weapon toward officers. The individual was taken into custody after a brief struggle with police.

Michael WHITEHEAD, 30, of Kincardine was charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
 

• Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon, CC 270.01(1)(a) - two counts
• Fail to Comply with Probation, CC 733.1(1) - two counts
• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, CC 88
• Resist Peace Officer, CC 129(a)
• Possess Stolen Property, CC 355(b)

The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.

DRIVER FAILS ROADSIDE SCREENING DEVICE

(HURON-KINLOSS, ON) - Nov. 12, at 9:12 p.m., the South Bruce OPP stopped a vehicle along Highway 9, in the Township of Huron-Kinloss, for a Highway Traffic Act violation.

The investigating officer detected signs of impairment from the driver. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilized. The driver was placed under arrest and transported to the South Bruce OPP detachment for further testing.

Brett SWIFT, 32, of the Municipality of Kincardine was charged with Impaired Operation, CC 320.14(1)(b).

The accused is set to appear in the Walkerton Court of Justice, Dec. 18.
