Winter doesn’t officially arrive for three weeks, but the Kincardine area was certainly hit with a blast of snowy weather, Friday.
The snowstorm blew in Thursday evening and intensified Friday, bringing heavy snowfall and high wind, and causing blowing and drifting snow. School buses were cancelled in Kincardine and Ripley, but the schools remained open for those who could get there safely.
Environment Canada had issued a snow squall warning, indicating local accumulations of snow possibly exceeding 75 centimetres by late Sunday, as well as very poor to zero visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
The snowstorm is expected to continue through the weekend and into next week.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Road closures are likely.
