Impaired driver arrested at Festive RIDE check in Whitechurch
(NORTH HURON, ON) - The Huron County OPP has charged a Waterloo resident with Impaired driving offences, following a sobriety check at a Festive "Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere" (RIDE) checkpoint, in the Township of North Huron.
Just before 10:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, Huron County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE check in Whitechurch on Amberley Road. A vehicle pulled up to the checkpoint to speak with police about an unrelated matter, at which time officers determined that the driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation, transported to the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton, and provided breath samples before a qualified Intoxilizer Breath Technician. Breath samples were provided to police which resulted in readings over the legal limit.
Ishrad RAHAMAN, 56, of Waterloo has been charged with:
- Impaired Operation - Alcohol and Drugs
- Operation while Impaired - Over-80
The involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days, and the accused's driver's licence was suspended for a period of 90 days.
The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich, Jan. 20.
