Plenty of great activities planned for Ripley Winter Carnival, Feb. 14-15
Join the fun and excitement at the annual, family-favourite event, the Ripley Winter Carnival, scheduled for Feb. 14-15.
Embrace the chill of winter and celebrate with a multitude of activities at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre. Organized by the Huron-Kinloss community services department, the event is supported by several generous local sponsors.
The winter carnival begins Friday night, with the Costume Skate, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., sponsored by the Ripley and District Lions Club and the Ripley Agricultural Society. Who doesn't love another chance to wear that favourite Halloween costume, especially on Valentine's Day? Dress to impress and you might just win a prize!
Saturday begins with the ever-popular Pancake Breakfast, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., served by Huron-Kinloss council and staff volunteers. Enjoy pancakes, eggs, ham and toast. Cost is $10 each for adults; $5 each children under the age of 12; free for children age five and under; and $25 for a family of four.
Horse-drawn sleigh rides will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., courtesy of Farhope Farms. Enjoy a ride through the fields west of the community centre.
Meet some of Ripley’s firefighters, take a tour of a fire truck and learn some fire safety, thanks to the Ripley-Huron Fire Department. The display runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Create a masterpiece during the ice-painting activity on the Ripley Arena ice surface, from 1-2 p.m., supported by the Ripley Agricultural Society. Parental supervision is required on the ice surface during this event.
Warm up from the chilly weather and enjoy a fun game of euchre or bridge and a chance to win prizes, at the Euchre and Bridge Tournaments, from 1:30-3:30 p.m., in the social room. These are sponsored by Rosewood RVilla Senior Living.
The Ripley Wolves will be hosting a Hockey Skills Competition, from 5-6 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best shooter, puck control, and the fastest skater in the following groups: age six and seven; age eight and nine, age 10 and 11; and age 12 and 13.
Following the skills competition, there will be a public skate from 6-7 p.m., sponsored by the Ripley Wolves.
