Purple Grove news
There have been quite a few folks celebrating birthdays this month already - Happy Belated Birthday to Donna Elliott, Wilma Sutton, Annabelle Aitchison, Mariah Farrell, Heather Newman, Margie Lochhead, Marianne Irwin, Ria Middelkamp, Ron de Gans, Clayton Farrell and Jim Farrell.

Our sympathy is extended to the families of Ida Stephens, Sharon Cox, Burton Eskrick and Barney Haldenby of Kincardine and we especially remember Mary Cook of Ripley and how she loved to visit with people! Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.

Wilma Sutton and family gathered for Christmas at the home of Tammy and Brad Murray.

Marilyn Reid and the Reid families had an early Christmas gathering. Then, Brian and Jo Reid and Marilyn travelled to Crediton on Boxing Day to the home of Greg Reid and his fiancee, Jamie. Greg is now working from Hensall Co-op in the agronomy division.

MaryAnne Kukoly enjoyed Christmas celebrations with John and Joyce Farrell and families. Last Thursday, Sandy McEwan and Mary Anne also visited with the Farrells.

Cheryl and Carman Bridge enjoyed New Year’s weekend with grandchildren and celebrated Rhitt's fourth birthday.

Bruce Watke and Frances Kingston of Carlsruhe visited with Deanna Scott and Betty Helm on the weekend.

There have been some really great hockey tournaments and games over Christmas and New Year’s and it's great to see how people are improving their skating skills. Congratulations to all those teams for your hard work! Thank you to all those coaches and parents for your dedication to these young people!

PURPLE GROVE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The Purple Grove Women's Institute met at the home of Marilyn Reid, Wednesday at noon, for a potluck lunch. Everyone was happy to get out and see each other.

Roll Call was a favourite place you have been or wish to visit. The ladies shared some travel trips for those longer excursions too. Even though many of us like to travel, the expression, "No matter where I roam, Canada is always my home," sums up our appreciation of our great country!

We reviewed the business, and thoroughly enjoyed the armchair tour of Greece by Sandra Husk and Marilyn Reid. They had gone on this trip in September of last year. Greece is a country of much history and ancient civilizations. The country adopted the Christian ideology and the many beautiful churches and ancient buildings are evidence of the heritage of Greek people. This is where much of the Olympic games originated. With blue skies, blue seas and white buildings, it is a most beautiful country.

Sandra and Marilyn received our appreciation for a most interesting tour! We then adjourned to our auction with Dianne Simpson as the a most capable auctioneer! A fun day and lots of treasures going to new homes!

Our Feb. 5 meeting will be at the home of Fran Farrell, at 1:30 p.m., with Roll Call: Are you prepared for a fire? We have Huron-Kinloss fire chief Jeff Bradley attending as our guest speaker.

RIPLEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

The Ripley Agricultural Society hosted a reception, Jan. 4, in recognition of Hannah MacDonald being named the CNE Ambassador of the Fair back in August. Congratulations to Hannah on being Ripley’s first ambassador to become a CNE Ambassador and for representing the Ripley Agricultural Society for your one-year term.

Are you interested in the Ripley Agricultural Society? Join us for our Annual General Meeting, Jan. 20, at the Ripley-Huron Legion, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Send an E-mail message to  ripleyfair@hurontel.on.ca if you would like to attend.
