​PRO program good way to bring doctors to rural area, says writer

RE: “​Kincardine announces new doctor set to arrive as early as May”

It is unfortunate that it has taken this long to implement the Practice Ready Ontario (PRO) program in Ontario.

This fast-track program will allow for internationally-trained family physicians who are unable to practise unless they return to school and complete a two-year residency program. In Ontario, a small percentage of residency spots is available for internationally-trained physicians.

Several countries have an approved pathway that does not require additional training but requires sponsorship. The PRO program changes the dynamic, and hopefully, in time, rural communities will benefit.
