OPP launch holiday weekend traffic initiative in Huron County and South Bruce detachments
(HURON COUNTY, ON) - Huron County OPP officers are getting ready for a busy Easter long weekend as they participate in the province-wide seatbelt campaign/traffic safety initiative and work around the clock to keep the motoring public safe.
Last year, only
three motor vehicle collisions were reported over the Easter weekend, with property damage only and no injuries.
In 2024, over the four-day campaign, Huron OPP officers laid
26 seatbelt charges against drivers and passengers who placed themselves and other occupants in their vehicle at risk.
Last year, aggressive drivers posed a significant threat on roads, with
163 speeding charges and
five stunt/racing charges laid.
Two impaired driving and other various traffic charges were among the
235 offences Huron OPP officers held motorists accountable for over the long weekend.
The OPP conducts traffic enforcement every day of the year and remains committed to saving lives on Ontario roads, waterways, and trails.
The Easter long weekend seatbelt campaign runs from April 18-21.
"Please drive carefully as you navigate through the increased traffic flow on Ontario roadways,” says Huron County OPP community engagement officer Craig Soldan. “Driving is a privilege, and all drivers should do their part to ensure our roads are safe by driving sober, buckling up and always driving responsibly."
