Kincardine Peewee Kinucks are finalists at Silver Stick regional
The Kincardine Peewee Kinucks made it to the finals at the 29th annual Kincardine Silver Stick Regional Tournament, and managed to score first in the final game against Listowel, but could not gain any more traction, ending up on the short end of the 4-1 score.
The tournament began Sunday and culminated with the finals at the Davidson Centre Wednesday, with "B" and "C" divisions of Novice, Peewee and Bantam.
Wednesday afternoon, the Kinucks took on the Cyclones, a team they had just tied in regular round-robin play.
Midway through the first period, Kayne Lee put Kincardine on the scoreboard with a goal from Brett Hagan and Jordan Beisel.
The Kinucks held that lead until half-way through the second when Listowel tied it up and then took a 2-1 lead. The third period belonged to the Cyclones who scored two quick goals to take the win and the banner, 4-1.
Jordan Beisel of the Kinucks, and Chet Hudson of the Cyclones were named Players of the Game. Medals were handed out and the trophy and banner presented to the Listowel team which advances to the International Silver Stick finals in Forest, Ontario, Jan. 8-10, 2016.
Just prior to the Peewee "B" final game, tournament director Ray Luinstra presented a Silver Stick jacket to Craig Whitfield of Kincardine, an employee at the Davidson Centre for 31 years, who has worked every Kincardine Regional Silver Stick tournament since the event began. Whitfield is considering retirement but would definitely be back for Silver Stick.
In Novice "C" action, Thornbury/Meaford Georgian Shores downed Kurtzville, 8-1, to take the championship, while in Novice "B", Mitchell defeated Twin Centres, 5-1, for the trophy.
In Peewee "C", West Grey edged Seaforth, 4-3, for the win.
And in Bantam "C", Minto blanked South Bruce, 11-0, for the trophy, while in Bantam "B", Tavistock defeated Twin Centre, 5-1, for the banner.
