Bervie W.I. learns about the group, CAN Grey Bruce
The Bervie Women’s Institute met at the Bervie United Church, Wednesday morning, with “Health” being the theme.

After the usual openings, president Bev Berndt read the land acknowledgement. Eleven members answered the Roll Call which was, “What do you know about CAN Grey Bruce”? Betty Jean White read the minutes of the last meeting and Islay Eby gave the treasurer’s report.

Sandra MacDonald gave the Sunshine Report and Ellen Waye reported on Federated Women’s Institutes of Ontario (FWIO) events. Jane Hartley of Victim Services Bruce Grey attended and was presented with six sets of books, bears and blankets for use in that agency’s work.

The guest speaker was unable to attend so Ellen explained what CAN Grey Bruce is – it was started by Alicia Slyvest, a single mom who lives in Chesley. It’s a volunteer organization that helps struggling single moms by providing some food and special occasion treats for children. Donations to the group’s work are welcome. Ellen closed her program with the reading, “Mother’s Endless Love.”

Six members will attend the Bruce District Annual meeting in Chesley, May 22. The yard, plant and bake sale will be at the church, Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to Noon, in conjunction with the Bervie United Church women’s quilts, yard and bake sale.

Thanks to Maria Hodgins and Joyce Roach for the tasty snacks.

The meeting closed with the closing ode and “The King.”

The next meeting will be held June 4, with a tour of Bruce Power, followed by a potluck lunch at the home of Diane Wilson.
