Disappointing Christmas for those groups shut out of Ripley Reunion funding, says reader

Disappointing Christmas for those groups shut out of Ripley Reunion funding, says reader

To the Editor:

I commend the Ripley Reunion committee for making such good profits from the event and giving the money back to the community.

However, in the call-out to the community for groups to submit funding requests, the offer seemed genuine for a variety of groups across the area. There was not a stipulation that Ripley groups only should apply. With $60,000 to give out, hopes were high for a lot of groups across Huron–Kinloss Township, and even Kincardine, that some funding would be received. As it turned out, only 22 of 50 groups received funding from this large amount of money.

When reading who received funds, it is apparent that Ripley and those who helped with the reunion received money. If that is what the committee decided, that is fine, but I think it is a shame that the call went out as if all organizations who put in a reasonable request for funding to help in the community, would be eligible. I think many groups, within Huron-Kinloss, had a disappointing Christmas.
