Purple Grove news

Another cool week, but the sun sure is welcome when it's out! We're supposed to be able to see the Northern Lights these next couple of days, so look for them up in the night sky.

We missed the May wedding anniversaries of John and Joyce Farrell and David and Teresa Becker, and belated May birthday greetings to Peter Roberts, George Miller, Marsha Farrell and Crystal Ferguson!

We extend our sincere sympathy to the families of Joan (Pollock) Ritchie, Gary Hedley, and Ken Scott of the Kincardine and Kinloss area.

Our hearts are grieving, also, with the Walkerton District Community School and families on the sudden loss of four students and their coach and teacher. We extend our prayers for all affected by this tragic accident.

We also remember friends and family recovering in hospital and at home from recent illness and surgeries. Wishing you a speedy recovery and better days ahead!

And we're extending our prayers and thoughts for family and friends in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, who are experiencing the unpredictability of the wildfires throughout the west. To our emergency personnel who are coming from all parts of Canada to assist these folks, we certainly are grateful and thankful for your commitment and response.

Friends and family of Joyce Osborne gathered Saturday afternoon to acknowledge her retirement, following 43 years of milk-testing in the dairy industry. Joyce met many farm families throughout the counties of Bruce, Grey, Huron and Wellington in her career!

Congratulations to the latest business to open in Ripley – Schooner's Bodega - a lovely cafe on Huron Street!

Congratulations, also, to the United Church of Canada which is celebrating the 100th anniversary of incorporation! Congregations throughout the area will be marking the milestone with special services and gatherings all through the month of June, in particular! We hope you'll have the chance to get to
some of these events! St. Andrew's United Church in Ripley will acknowledge this at the annual Ham Barbecue, June 22. Tickets are available from UCW members.

The Purple Grove Women's Institute will meet Wednesday, June 4, at 7 p.m. at the Purple Grove Community Centre. Guest speaker is Alcinda Douglas with her Upcycled Materials. Everyone is welcome!
