Nicole Markham won $1,109 in the Catch the Ace draw. She chose Envelope No. 13 which contained the Nine of Clubs. So we move onto next Wednesday’s draw in hopes that we might see the progressive jackpot swell up to more than $10,000. Please remember, every purchase of a ticket helps to support our trilogy of charities: the Kincardine Legion, Huron Shores Hospice, and the Tiverton and District Lions Club, for local projects. This week, we put Russ into the inspiring movie, “Fields of Dreams,” in case you missed it. Check the Kincardine Legion - Catch the Ace Facebook page on Mondays to play ‘Russ in the Movies’ with us.

At the Saturday Meat Draw, we had just one double-dipper - Jamie White. There seemed to be a double exclamation mark after Jim McDonald’s name, not sure why exactly, but it must have been exciting!! Gail McKay won the 50/50 draw and took home $181.50. Congratulations to all the winners.

In Legion Golf news, Branch 183 had four teams competing at the Zone Golf Tournament at Blackhorse Golf Course, May 31. Keith Colley Jr. and Jake Colley won first place in the regular division. Les Kelly and Dave Cooper are moving on in the senior division, and Carolyn Kelly and Brenda Cooper are also moving on in the women’s division. The next tournament is July 12 in Owen Sound. Tomorrow (June 6), the Kincardine Refugee Committee is hosting a fund-raiser at the Legion. This Rock ‘n’ Roll event includes two tribute performances, by Get Back (Beatles) and Elvis Tribute performer David Starr-Neitzel. Tickets are $40 each, and are available at Penetangear or by E-transfer to kincardinerc@gmail.com. The event runs from 7-10:30 p.m.

Saturday, June 14, is the Royal Canadian Legion District “C” Crystal Taylor Memorial Track Meet, being held at the Jacob Hespeler S.S. track in Cambridge. For registration, visit trackie.com/event/districtc2025 (note the small ‘c’ in there, after the word “district”). This meet is open to ages 10-17, and Under-12 athletes can enter more than one event. Good luck to all our local (Branch 183) athletes making the trip to Cambridge!

Swing Dancing: The Lighthouse Swing Band, an 18-piece Big Band, will be hosting six dances at the Legion in the coming months. The first one is Sunday, June 22, and has a theme of ‘Carnival In Rio.’ The dance runs from 2-5 p.m. Admission to the dances is ‘Pay What You Can,’ with a suggested $10-$20 range. At all the dances, there is a professional dance instructor, Carmen Coburn, present to teach Ballroom and Line-Dancing steps (free to all attendees). Each of the Lighthouse Swing Band dances at the Legion will have a unique theme, and the music the band will play, and the decorating will both be driven by the theme of that dance. Future dates include July 22 (Fly Me to the Moon), Aug. 9 (A Night in Paris), Aug. 26 (Big Band Cruise), Sept. 21 (Swing Stars of Broadway), and Oct. 19 (The Great Gatsby).

We are really looking forward to Canada Day at the Legion, so plan to attend for some great music, food and fun.

Tickets are on sale for The Ballaghs (July 20), and Lulu’s Band (Sept. 27), so be sure to get yours at the Legion Bar, so you don’t miss out.

Every so often, we like to remind everyone that our Legion has a wide variety of medical equipment that we loan out to the community, so if you are need to borrow something, reach out to us at kinlegion@bmts.com with your needs and we will connect you with the right person to help you. We have walkers, crutches, assistive aids, etc., and we even have a children’s size wheelchair.

As of June 1, we have some new executive members representing Branch 183. We still have to get a few photos of some of the new people, but you can see the list of officers and executive members on our Legion website at kincardinelegion.com.
