​Bruce County Library’s Summer Reading Club to kick off in Port Elgin

The TD Summer Reading Club is back at the Bruce County Public Library, and you are invited to set sail on an adventure at the annual kick-off party, taking place at the Port Elgin branch, located at 708 Goderich St., Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The kick-off will be a day of adventure:
 

• Bring the whole family and be entertained with interactive inflatable games from Can Do Events.
• Enjoy engaging Story Times with local authors Dorothy Ladd, Linda Kloosterhof, and Oksanna Crawley.
• Experience live music throughout the day with performances by folk duo Panzerotti and Sunshine, along with the captivating rhythms of Mystic Drumz and vibrant Cultural Dance performances.
• Fan favourites Willows Whymsies will be returning to transform kids into enchanting creatures with their exceptional face-painting talents.

Can’t make it to the main event? No worries! All library branches will be hosting their own mini kick-off program, packed with fun activities for all ages.

How can you participate?

Sign up using the Beanstack app, read books, log minutes, and earn badges. Plus, there will be monthly draws for lots of amazing prizes.

Beanstack is a free service provided by the library, that uses fun challenges and rewards as an incentive to keep children reading. Children who read for fun have higher literacy scores and will head back to school in September ready to learn.

New this year are the Biblioboard challenges. Accessed through the library website, kids, teens and adults will have individual themed activities to complete in this free digital resource included with your library card.

Beginning in July, each branch will host weekly themed programs.

Visit your branch as we set out for a trip around the globe. Be sure to pick up your Summer Reading Club brochure for the dates and times of these programs. The brochure also includes information about special events happening all summer long!

Special guests this year include Scales Nature Park, Wild Ontario Birds of Prey, and Folk duo Panzerotti and Sunshine.

The library will also be teaming up with different municipalities around Bruce County to bring outdoor movie nights to communities.
