Ripley Wolves suffer two heart-breaking losses on the weekend

The Ripley Wolves lost, 4-3, in a shoot-out in Lucknow, Saturday, in their post-holiday return to action on the weekend, followed by a hard-fought 5-2 loss to the league leading Mapleton-Minto 81s, Sunday.

The Wolves managed to gain only one point in Lucknow despite out-shooting the home team, 45-17.

The game was 3-3 after regulation time and took a shoot-out to solve. Scoring for the Wolves were Jarred Colling, Tyler McCarthy and Brett Catto. Assists went to Ryan Armstrong, Cody Britton (2), Drew Davidson and Catto.

Mitch Campbell took the shoot-out loss.

Sunday afternoon, a good crowd watched the Wolves put up a great fight against the North Division’s top team, Mapleton-Minto, taking a 2-2 tie into the third period.

Campbell was rock solid in the Wolves net, stopping 29 shots over the first two periods, before the 81s' relentless attack burned him three times in the third, for a 5-2 loss.

Second-period goals were scored by Armstrong and Davidson, with Shawn Stewart, Colling, Catto and Britton picking up assists.

The Ripley Tykes Green team took on the White team during the first intermission of this game.

The Wolves welcome Saugeen Shores to The Den Saturday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The Winterhawks trail the third-place Wolves in the standings, so this game is hugely important. It’s Minor Hockey night, so bring the kids to the game and wear your team’s jersey!

Sunday, Mapleton-Minto returns to Ripley for a 1:30 p.m. start. The Senior Tykes will play between the first and second period, so come support more future Wolves!
