Huron United Football Club maintains form with 3-0 win over Oriental Reserves FC
An emphasis on possession and excellent defensive marking earned the Huron United Football Club a 3-0 win over Oriental Reserves FC of Cambridge in the Tri-City Men's Soccer League match-up July 22. The win brings Huron United's record to 5-2-2 on the season.

A foul on Huron United midfielder Simon Andonian won an early free kick look for leading scorer Adam Carty, but his attempt sailed high. Carty had another attempt within the first five minutes pulled off the line by the Oriental keeper after co-captain Gerrit Satosek forced a turnover.

Huron United’s attack continued unabated, with measured touches from defenders Charlie Hall-Elwood and Shady Dahrouj helping maintain composure in possession. Carty ripped another one just wide in the 14th minute after a nice centring pass from winger Jihu Kim.

Satosek initiated the opener in the 35th minute with a leading through ball against the grain that unleashed a sprinting Drew Cobean down the right flank. Cobean held up the ball and picked out holding midfielder Flynn Colwell-Castles, who surged into the box with Lampardian timing to side-foot the ball through the keeper.

Huron United nearly made it 2-0 minutes later, after James Jeffreys expertly flicked on Cobean’s throw-in to create space for co-captain Jacob Hunsburger in the box. Hunsburger's hard shot was parried by the keeper, and the rebound just evaded gadfly winger Riley Cherrett.

Oriental came within inches of levelling the score just before half-time, but its striker put the ball off the bar and then missed wide with his own rebound, with Huron United keeper Josh Coleman’s positioning helping preserve the 1-0 advantage into half-time.

Huron United increased its lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute on the strength of some tight passing between Satosek and Carty to weave the ball into Oriental's box. Carty then laid a lateral pass to Cobean, who had his initial shot stopped but managed to step around the keeper and escort his own rebound over the line.

Carty nearly added to his portfolio of highlight reel goals with a laced attempt from distance that knuckled around the keeper but smashed off the upper post. Huron United added an insurance marker in the 82nd minute after Colwell-Castles' precise corner picked out Satosek for a thumping header that entered the goal untouched.

Some highlights from the closing stages included fullback Angus Sharpe winning a sprint from touchline to touchline against three Oriental players to earn a corner, and Huron United legend Dave McNeish helping to seal the 3-0 victory and clean sheet with a vintage performance at centreback.

Colwell-Castles was voted Man of the Match for his multiple goal contributions, while Satosek, Hall-Elwood, and Masoom Saromie earned honourable mentions.

The Huron United FC, based out of Saugeen Shores United Football Club, continues its TMSL campaign against Red FC, Tuesday, July 29, at Spinrite Field, Listowel. The squad features players from Kincardine, Port Elgin, and surrounding areas. For team updates, visit kdslsoccer.com.
