Local entrepreneurs create unique business collaboration in wellness field

A chance encounter and a meeting of similar minds, have led to a unique business collaboration in the wellness field, located right here at home, in southern Bruce County and northern Huron County, and Made in Canada.
For
Michael Holder (right), it all began with a converging of factors, including a lack of new, healthier, stress-coping
options. For
Melissa Baumgaertner (below), it all began with a passion to help people reach their health and wellness goals, and improve their quality of life.
Both Michael and Melissa were participating in the 2025 Hawk’s Nest investors and mentorship program for new and start-up businesses in Bruce and Grey counties. Michael had also participated in the 2024 Bruce County Starter Company Plus Program. It was through the Hawk’s Nest, that the chance encounter and meeting of similar minds occurred.
“We met at an investors’ pitch training session for the Hawk’s Nest program, and just happened to sit side-by-side,” said Michael.
“The pitch training session started, with participants introducing themselves, their businesses and product or service being offered,” said Melissa. “When Michael described his relaxation gummy bar, I immediately recognized its potential, due to demand in the wellness field for relaxation products, as alternative stress-coping options.”
Both Michael and Melissa utilized their backgrounds to create their products and services. Michael is a university and college graduate, with Bachelor of Science and Honours Bachelor of Science degrees in the chemical sciences, a Bachelor of Education degree in chemistry teaching, and an Advanced College Diploma in Chemical Production and Power Engineering Technology, as Stationary Engineering.
Melissa is a Registered Holistic Nutrition Practitioner and Health Coach, with accredited diplomas in Holistic Nutrition and Health Coach, and Advanced Holistic Nutrition, from the Nutraphoria School of Holistic Nutrition, in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

For Michael, the end result was SE Steady, with GABA HCl, providing a day’s-worth of GABA relaxation shot, in a single gummy bar, so you can “bring some steady as it goes” to your day. GABA, or Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid, is the natural relaxation neuro-chemical, and is provided in its soluble form, GABA HCl, for faster absorption and action. SE Steady is a healthier, more affordable, more discreet, stress-coping option as a solution for relaxation wellness, and is a healthier alternative to alcohol, cigarettes, and vaping.
The gummy bar is free of gluten, fats, sugars, carbohydrates, sodium, GMO, soy, and dairy; low in calories and high in proteins, making it a healthier option for those watching what they eat. SE Steady is proudly protected by Michael’s two Canadian Patents: CA 3,132,224, and CA 3,153,977. It is made-in-Canada by his manufacturing company, Smith Enniskillen, which produces the GABA HCl, formulates, and packages, and labels the gummy bars, at two company-owned production facilities, one in Kincardine and one in Belgrave.
For Melissa, the end result was various multi-component wellness packages, each of which focuses on common desired aspects of wellness, such as detox, gut health, mood balance, and stress reduction and relaxation. Her packages and programs include: appointments to begin and monitor progress, five-day meal plan recipes for aiding various aspects of nutritional wellness, juices for inflammation, digestion, liver support, energy boosting, and mood boosting, which contain no additives or preservatives.
Michael’s SE Gummy Bars, under the Smile Wellness brand, are available, along with Melissa’s wellness packages, juices, and services, through her on-line retail store website at:
www.smilewellnessclinic.ca and her new on-ground retail store and expanded juice production facility, at the main intersection in Ripley, in Bruce County.
Additional SE Gummy Bar products, under the Smile Wellness brand, and currently in development, include those for stimulation, mood boosting, and cognitive function. There will be more to come from Michael and Melissa, as their collaboration continues, and can be summed up as “turning chemistry into consumer solutions.”
