The Ripley Wolves couldn’t maintain the three-way tie for third place after losing both games on the weekend.
The Wolves, who were tied with Shallow Lake and Saugeen Shores for third in the North Division entering the weekend, fell 6-2 to Saugeen Shores and 7-1 to first-place Mapleton-Minto. That moves the Wolves into a tie for fourth with Shallow Lake, although the Crushers have played two fewer games than Ripley.
Saturday night in Ripley, the Wolves opened the scoring midway in the first period, when Jarred Colling scored from Chad Liley.
Saugeen Shores tied the game late in the second, but Ripley took a 2-1 lead, after Dylan Sayle scored from Ryan Dudgeon. Minutes later, Saugeen Shores made it a 2-2 game, and then overwhelmed the Wolves in the third, scoring four unanswered goals - two in the final minute of play - to take the 6-2 win.
At home to Mapleton-Minto, Sunday afternoon, the 81s opened the scoring midway in the first and then took a 2-0 lead, before Cody Britton fired in a shot for Ripley, assisted by Paul Stewart and goalie Mitch Campbell.
Mapleton-Minto then shut down the Wolves' offence, scoring two in the second and three in the third, for the 7-1 win.
The four newest members of the Wall of Fame will be honoured in a pre-game ceremony this Saturday, Jan. 16. At that match, the Wolves take on the Shallow Lake Crushers, a team the Wolves are battling for third in the North Division standings.
It is also Sponsor Appreciation Night, so help the Wolves thank the local businesses that make Ripley Wolves hockey possible through their support.
