Purple Grove news
Lots of birthdays this time of year and September is a busy month! Arlo Farrell celebrated his ninth birthday with lots of excitement with his family, Becca, Thomas, Everett and Charlotte, along with grandparents Bren and Harvey de Leeuw and Geoff and Sandra Farrell and Uncle Patrick Farrell, all of Kincardine. Sandy and Sasha Bridge, Evelyn and Bennett enjoyed ringing in Blake and Winston’s second birthday!!

Best birthday wishes also to Carole Robertson, Jerry Logtenberg, Cole Fry, Chad Colling, Elizabeth Cubberley and Cole VanDyke.

Lots of people have been enjoying the various theatre venues around the area, with folks attending the “Doc Cruickshank” story at Blyth this past month. That show is so well done - it’s wonderful to celebrate, educate and promote our local history!

September is a popular month also for many couples who have celebrated their wedding anniversaries. Brian and Shirley Dewar are married 50 years, and Heather and Sam Finnie celebrated their 40th. Other couples celebrating this past week were Kathryn and Andrew Vogan, Andrew and Diane MacDonald, Sharon and Alec Martin, Jim and Bern Scott, Kim and Anthony Lawlor, and Jim and Fran Farrell!

Congratulations to John MacKay and Melissa Taylor who were married last Saturday with family and friends at the farm!

Again we extend our sympathy to those families grieving the loss of family members. Frank Zipfel will be remembered as a kind and caring man who enjoyed having family and friends visiting and sharing meals, and Mary Musselman of Kincardine with her love of family, community and nature.

Thank you to our municipalities for the beautiful streetscapes we have for our floral displays and to those who assisted in the maintenance and watering It sure is a welcoming sight for all our visitors and residents! And thank you to those who operate and work at the Bruce Botanical Gardens in Ripley for all that lovely produce that people are welcome to purchase for a nominal fee. It sounds as if the junior horticulturalists have done a great job growing their garden too!

Congratulations to those communities hosting Terry Fox Runs and Walks, Sunday!

Looking forward to the Lucknow Fall Fair this weekend and Ripley-Huron Fall Fair coming up next! September is sure going fast. Be sure to get your bale, business, and residential decorating entry ready for the Ripley-Huron Fair and submitted to Jean MacDonald by Sept. 20. We can't wait to see those cows in your display!

Family Time Amusement advance midway wristbands are available to purchase at Pollock Electric. Thanks to Pollock Electric for taking on the task selling the wristbands and fall fair merchandise every year.

Coming up this week, the Ripley and District Horticultural Society meeting, Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the social room at the Ripley-Huron Community Centre, beginning at at 7 p.m. We'll be having our September Flower Show and the guest speaker will be from the Kincardine Environmental Action Network (KEAN). Lug your mug and napkin for refreshments. Everyone welcome!
