(HURON COUNTY, ON) – If you are a student looking for an awesome summer job, look no further, the OPP has the job for you.
The Huron County OPP detachment is once again hiring two students to work with the OPP Marine Unit during the 2016 marine season.
The OPP Summer Student Marine Assistant Program provides an opportunity for students to gain exposure and experience within the field of law enforcement through hands-on experience. The successful applicants will learn about marine safety, related legislation, vessel maintenance, and report preparation. Summer students employed with the OPP will have the opportunity to promote the OPP and the Huron OPP marine policing program to the public.
The bulk of the students' time will be spent out on Lake Huron working alongside a qualified OPP marine operator on a police vessel. During these patrols, officers conduct vessel checks on recreational boaters for safety equipment, safe vessel operation and the enforcement of laws found in the Canada Shipping Act, Criminal Code and the Liquor Licence Act.
Marine students earn a wage of $11.85 per hour. This position is slated to start May, 2016, and will run until the Labour Day weekend in September.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone who would like to work in law enforcement," says sergeant Charlene Pollard, Huron County OPP Traffic and Marine. "Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable exposure and unique experience working alongside our OPP marine officers. Some of our past summer students have been inspired by this program to continue on with their studies to pursue a career in law enforcement. If you are looking for a rewarding, interesting and exciting summer job, I encourage you to apply.”
