Kincardine Theatre Guild presents fund-raiser in support of women's shelter

The Kincardine Theatre Guild is proud to present V-Day, "The Vagina Monologues," Feb. 5-6, at 8 p.m., at the Kincardine Arts Centre, as a fund-raiser for Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey.

This award-winning play, based on V-day founder/playwright Eve Ensler’s interviews with more than 200 women, addresses women's sexuality and the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse. Based on dozens of interviews Ensler conducted with women, the show helps create a new conversation about, and with, women. It is a testimonial of women’s experiences on their journey through sexual discovery.

In the play, these women share their most intimate desires and fears in a backdrop of humour, heartbreak and, sometimes, violence. Monologues, such as "My Short Skirt," "Because he liked to look at it," and "My vagina was my village," among others, have touched the lives of many women as they embrace who they really are.

Although the “Vagina Monologues” play is a theatrical event like no other, it is also an evening of charity. All funds raised go directly toward the services and client necessities of the women's shelter, which are not covered by government funding. Women’s House is the only non-Aboriginal shelter serving abused women and children in Bruce County.

The shelter relies on major fund-raisers, such as the “Vagina Monologues” play, to ensure the current level of vital services and programs is continued for the women and children in need in our community.
