Kincardine hospital foundation receives donations; funds equipment at hospital

The Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation has received some major donations over the past couple of weeks, and has committed more than $400,000 toward funding equipment at the Kincardine hospital.

The Power Workers' Union (PWU) presented a donation of $20,000 which will be used to purchase four ceiling lifts, at a cost of $6,727 apiece. The ceiling lifts are needed for patient safety and to help reduce staff injuries. Patient handling is a high-risk activity in health care with nurses providing direct patient care. The implementation and use of appropriate engineering controls, such as a ceiling lift, help to reduce patient-handling injuries and has had a positive impact.  Researchers have found that ceiling lifts eliminate many of the risk factors associated with patient handling, and health care staff using ceiling lifts have found them to be safe and effective.

The Power Workers' Union has donated $95,000, to date, including this donation, plus yearly support through the Bruce Power Golf Tournament.

Zafar Khan, pharmacist and owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Kincardine, and his committed staff, customers and the generous community raised $2,365 through the “Growing Women’s Health Campaign,” focusing on making a difference to women’s health!

That money has been donated to the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation's Radiothon campaign which has now reached its goal of $75,000 to purchase IV pumps for the Kincardine hospital. The foundation appreciates Shoppers Drug Mart and the community for their wonderful support!
