Third Kincardine Community Ski Loppet has exciting finish
The third Kincardine Community Ski Loppet was held Sunday afternoon at Stoney Island Conservation Area under grey skies, with temperatures just below zero, and well-packed snow.
These conditions promised fast skiing; in fact, the results ended up with the winner breaking the course record.
Within the first kilometre, the five-kilometre race shaped up as a tussle between Erik Vandervlies of Teeswater and John McLarty of Huron-Kinloss, as they swapped the lead several times.
Coming up to the finish line, they were neck-and-neck, with Erik holding on to his slim lead of seven seconds. Only a minute behind was John Welwood of Lurgan Beach (Huron-Kinloss) who was the race winner two years ago.
First woman to cross the finish line was Jana Mika who put many younger skiers to shame with her speedy performance.  The top male and female won prizes donated by Penetangear Outdoor Sports store.

The winner of the youth race was Angus Norcliffe of Georgetown who was chased all the way by Dana Daetwyler of Kincardine.
