South Bruce OPP opens applications for 2026 Youth-in-Policing initiative
(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON)- The South Bruce OPP has announced that recruitment is under way for the 2026 Youth-in-Policing initiative. This paid summer employment program offers young people, aged 15-18, the opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain hands-on experience, and build positive connections within their community.
The program runs for eight weeks through July and August, with participants working up to 40 hours per week. The initiative is designed to introduce youth to various aspects of policing while encouraging teamwork, responsibility, and community engagement.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 15-18 years old by summer, 2026
- Be currently enrolled in secondary school
- Be legally eligible to work in Canada
- Successfully complete the recruitment and background clearance process
- Be a resident of the South Bruce OPP policing area
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Participants will gain exposure to a wide range of policing and community-focused duties, which may include:
- Supporting and attending community events
- Meeting with policing and civilian units
- Assisting with crime prevention initiatives
- Helping maintain police cruisers, boats, and garage areas
- Assisting with educational presentations and detachment tours
- Engaging with youth and community members
- Participating in foot patrol and positive ticketing
- Supporting recruitment activities
These experiences provide young people with valuable insight into policing while helping them develop transferable skills and a stronger connection to their community.
