Huron Shores Hospice invites community to Death Cafes in Paisley and Southampton
Huron Shores Hospice is inviting community members to take part in a series of Death Cafés — unique, welcoming gatherings designed to encourage open and honest conversations about death and dying.

Hosted in a relaxed, café-style setting, these events offer participants the opportunity to share thoughts, ask any questions, and explore perspectives on one of life’s most universal experiences. With coffee, tea, and light refreshments provided, Death Cafés create a safe and inclusive space for meaningful connection.

Death Cafés are not grief counselling sessions, but rather informal discussions that help normalize conversations around death — something many people find difficult to talk about, yet deeply important. These events are free to attend and rely on community fund-raising events, such as the Hike for Hospice, coming up May 9.

Death Café Dates:

  • Tuesday, April 14, Paisley Legion, 10-11 a.m.
  • Tuesday, May 5, Southampton Chantry Centre, 4-5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 12, Paisley Orchard’s Landing, 10-11:30 a.m.

Each session is open to all who are interested in exploring the topic, whether they wish to actively participate or simply listen. Attendees are welcome to share as much or as little as they feel comfortable. Physical registration sheets can also be found at each location.

“At Huron Shores Hospice, we believe that talking about death can help people live more fully,” says Jessica Daneluk, community engagement co-ordinator. “These conversations can reduce fear, foster understanding, and even help individuals communicate their wishes with loved ones.”

Death Cafés are part of Huron Shores Hospice’s broader commitment to supporting individuals and families through education, connection, and compassionate care in the community.

Huron Shores Hospice is a charitable, not-for-profit, volunteer-driven, community-funded residential hospice, providing free quality end-of-life care, to residents of Kincardine, Huron-Kinloss, Saugeen Shores and surrounding areas. The hospice also provides free programs for Grief Support, End-of-Life Doula services, Caregiver workshops, Death Cafés and End-of-Life Planning workshops.
