After a good weekend in Exeter, winning gold at the Pink on the Rink tournament, the Kincardine Montgomery Ford Midget girls "C" team received notification Monday from the OWHA that an application had been made to re-categorize the Kinucks as "B" team.
Needless to say, the Ford girls are a decent "C team but "B" is above our level because having players leave our system to play Saugeen hockey has affected this over time.
The coach and manager of the Ford Kinucks reviewed the team's entire season statistics and games played, and then presented a case Wednesday to remain as a "C" team. That was ratified by the OWHA Friday evening.
As if to back up that decision, the Ford girls ended up on the short end of two close games on the weekend.
Friday night, in Walkerton, the team played the Capital "B" team and lost, 5-4, in a close, well-played game on both sides.
Sunday, the Ford girls travelled to Markdale to play the Shooting Stars "B" team which is undefeated in the WOAA league this season.
With two Bantam call-ups to help out with a shorter bench, (Lily Freiburger and Callie Martyn), the team played its best, and the game was tied 3-3 after two periods. However, in the third, Markdale opened up and brought the rain, taking the win, 6-3.
Kincardine scorers from both games were Megan Stewart-Kemp (1), Danielle McBride (1), Ashley McConnell (1), Eden McFarlane (1), Lily Freiburger (1), Madison McBride (2).
The girls are off to Lion's Head Wednesday night to play the Bruce Peninsula "B" team.
