Tegan Frook (right) of Kincardine has been skating since she was five years old and has now taken her love of the sport to a gold medal at the provincial level.
The 14-year-old is a member of the Kincardine Skating Club and has been competing all season. She qualified for the provincial championships by being among the top 30 skaters in Ontario.
March 21, at the provincial competition in Hamilton, she was named the Star 6 provincial champion, with a gold medal in freeskate.
"I was shocked," said Tegan. "I have never skated that well. I had a clean program. It was so amazing."
This is a first for the Kincardine Skating Club where Tegan is coached by her mother, Erin Frook, as well as Lorilee Nelson and Laura Matheson.
Next year, Tegan will be training and competing at the Star 8 level, with plans to become a professional skater.
The daughter of Derek and Erin Frook, Tegan is in Grade 9 at Kincardine District Senior School.
