Madcap and mayhem abound in Kincardine Theatre Guild's "Wyrd Sisters"
If you like a bit of madcap and mayhem mixed in with your classical performance, you are going to love the Kincardine Theatre Guild's production of "Wyrd Sisters," which opened Friday night at the Kincardine Arts Centre in downtown Kincardine.
While the cast brings much to the wild and zany atmosphere of the play, the stand-outs are the three witches played by newcomers Patti Kell as Granny Weatherwax and Savannah DeLuca as Magrat Garlick, and veteran Jenn White as Nanny Ogg.
They carry most of the action and dialogue, as they interact with the other characters. And they have some of the most hilarious lines, quipping that being assassinated is death by natural causes for a king; and that witches are bound to be truthful, not honest.
The best scene has Granny and Nanny jumping on their broomsticks and advancing time by 15 years.
Also bringing stellar performances to the stage, are Stefanie Hutter as the evil Duchess Lady Felmet and her murderous husband, Duke Leonal Felmet, played by Steve McGibney, as well as Aries Rodriguez as the Fool, Nathan Beer as Tomjon, and Bruce Fenton as Olwyn Vitoller.
Joining them on stage are:
- Casey Martin as the late King Verence
- Jason Geberdt as soldier/Hwel/guard
- Jaki Mayer Duggan as Mrs. Vitoller/Gumbridge
- Kasey Edwards as Chamberlain/guard/witch
- Leahanne MacKay as witch/actor/crowd
- Mike King as sergeant/guard/crowd
- Victoria Richardson as robber/actor/crowd
- Leslie Wade as actor/robber/Wimsloe
- Sid Duggan as actor/player/crowd
- Leise Peddie as peasant/actor/witch
- Kathie Hackney as demon/guard/crowd
- Sophia Booth as soldier/guard/robber
The play by Terry Pratchett, adapted for the stage by Stephen Briggs, has been described as a combination of Hocus Pocus, Shakespeare and Monty Python.
When the King of Lancre is murdered, the three witches must restore order with their magic and wit. It is a lively tale of destiny, friendship, and storytelling.
But, ultimately, is the magic of the witches strong enough to determine who is the rightful heir to the throne? You'll have to purchase a ticket to find out.
Praise to director Andy Wasylycia for the quick and efficient scene changes, and to the set design and lighting crew for such a magnificent job.
"Wyrd Sisters" continues May 1, 2, 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m.; and May 3 and 9 at 2 p.m.
Seating is cabaret-style.
Tickets are $25 each (plus fees); available at the Victoria Park Gallery in downtown Kincardine, and on-line at
